While the future of the city-operated Asheville Film Festival remains very much a mystery, it appears increasingly likely that a new festival will take flight next fall with or without the city council’s blessing.

The Charlotte Film Festival is heading into a milestone year of sorts as it prepares to raise the curtain on its fifth annual festival. Its second go-round as a week-long enterprise, this year’s festival will run from September 20-26 and feature a slate of films that includes favorites from Sundance, Cannes, South by Southwest and beyond.
